This Master Class will take the form of a regular Tripsichore class with an emphasis on components of the Sun Salutes.  It will reveal the technical principles of vinyasa and will explain the experimental nature of vinyasa as found in the Tripsichore practice.

In this Master Class, we show the relevance of the contrast between the purity of the vinyasa practice of Sun Salutes and the postural orientation of the asana based Girish Sequence (which provides insight into some of the building blocks of vinyasa).  Both are profoundly influenced by the understanding of how the breath works both the mind and the body.  Both provide tools for an endless exploration of yoga.

These Master Classes will be taught by Edward Clark, the creator of Tripsichore.  While the subject matter is the Tripsichore Sun Salutes, the idea behind a Master Class is that the participants are able to engage with a highly skilled individual in a less formal dialogue than is possible in a normal class and to hear and exchange provocative insights and opinions.

Formed in 1979, Tripsichore has set about evolving a technique that provides the technical and philosophic methods and rationales for vinyasa yoga.  It addresses how the fluent use of pranayama in continuous movement is a vital part of the higher limbs of yoga…and it resolutely embraces both the spectacular and the basic in that movement.  Tripsichore technique adheres to the premise that “Evenly metered breath, synchronised with evenly metered movement, results in (or is the result of) evenness of mind.”   In practise, this means that the endpoint of posture is not more valid than the transitions between them – there is no necessity to rush to achieve a posture for it is something to be moved through on the way to the next.  This adherence to sustained fluidity might appear to contradict the dictums of forms of yoga that are premised on finding unity through stillness.  However, Tripsichore techniques liken the quality and aims of evenness to those of stillness.

It certainly isn’t for absolute beginners, but the workshop is open to all levels.
